How to use the webinar function (main stage / rooms)

Modified on Fri, 14 Mar at 10:41 AM

In Veertly you have the possibility to use the integrated webinar function. In webinar mode, all participants are on view only. If moderator have not yet started the webinar, the visitors will not be able to see/hear you. Visitors can request to join the webinar by raising their hand. They can then be authorised to participate using their audio or audio and video. You can use this function in two areas in Veertly, namely in the main stage and in the rooms.

Settings as a speaker or host in a webinar

As a speaker or host, you have the option of making various settings for your webinar.

Recording (you can either record or livestream)

You can start the recording of the webinar as a speaker or host. To start the recording, click on the three dots and then on ‘Start Recording’. You will then find the recordings in the Cockpit under recordings

Start live stream (you can either record or livestream)

Here you can broadcast the webinar to your own Veertly streaming instance or send it via Custom RTMP to any destination such as for example Restream.

Settings

In the taskbar on the three dots --> settings

  • You can define a virtual background
  • You can activate or deactivate the notifications for chat messages

Moderation settings

There are two ways to access the moderation settings:

1. the three dots in the taskbar --> settings --> moderator

2. display the list of participants --> click on the 3 dots on the far right --> more moderation controls

If activated, participants are muted when they are authorised

If activated Participants join without video if they have been authorised

If activated, you can direct the webinar. This means that the view of this user is automatically transferred to all other users. For example, if this user switches to the gallery view, this view is displayed to all other participants. The same applies to pin speaker, pin screen sharing or speaker view.

ATTENTION only one user can activate this function, otherwise this feature will not work.

If you have activated ‘everone follows me’, the recorder will also receive the signal controlled by you.

If you only want to control the recorder's signal, just activate ‘Recorder follows me

All reaction sounds such as hand raising are switched off for everyone

You can also make the following settings in the participant list on the three dots: (only available when at least one visitor is present)

Settings as a webinar visitor

As a participant in a webinar, you naturally have fewer setting options than a host or speaker.

To ask a question via audio as a participant in a webinar, you can use the raise hand function.

Here you can set live subtitles. But you have to select the correct source language to get a translation.

You can set the webinar to full screen here

Start webinar

If you have not yet started the webinar, you will see this pop-up window on your left-hand side:

Under participants you can see how many are already waiting in the waiting room:

Participants will see the following view if the webinar is not yet live:

If you now press ‘go live’, the webinar will start and the participants will be able to see you.

Authorise participant to ask a question

If a participant wants to ask a question verbally, they can use the raise hand function:

This request now appears in the list of participants for the host and speaker. This participant can now be activated or rejected.

If you want to move a participant back to visitors, you can hover over the name with the mouse and click on ‘move to visitor’ under the three dots.
